FDA Launches Public Health Program
to Educate Pregnant Women

The FDA recently launched a public health program to educate pregnant women about the risks of food-borne illnesses that can cause serious health problems to the mom and her fetus. The program features a website (ww.cfsan.fda.gov/pregnancy.html) with information on how to clean and cook foods to prevent these illnesses and which foods to avoid. These include: raw sprouts unpasteurized milk and milk products luncheon meats soft cheese refrigerated pate meat spreads and smoked seafood, which is most often labeled “nova-style,” “kippered,” or “lox.”
