Where There's Smoke, There's Fire

Smoking can adversely affect the reproductive system, as well as many systems of the body. Several studies have linked the effects of smoking in spermatogenesis (sperm production) and embryogenesis (embryo development).

Recently Elena Badrick at University College in London,England showed that smoking causes a moderate rise in cortisol secretion. Her findings now connect this damaging habit to the ill effects of the stress hormone. According to the National Women's Health Resource Center and the iVillage Survey 2006, stress affects 51 percent of women and 43 percent of men in the United States.
